Community Assessment

Updated: Apr 22, 2019

What is God calling your church to do?

What has God equipped you to do that no one else can do? How can you effectively engage with your community and share with persons the hope and love of Christ? Rebekah (Becky) has led a faith-based ministry which developed programs to meet “felt needs” and share the hope of the gospel with unchurched individuals for over 20 years. Community Assessments have been a tool which has led to great impact for the gospel in the neighborhoods in which she has ministered. She is passionate about working with churches and faith based ministries to embrace opportunities for ministry at their doorstep.

Purpose

A Church/Ministry Community Assessment is a collection and analysis of information for the purpose of a church effectively sharing the gospel and ministering to persons in their community. The assessment process is an invaluable tool for involving the church and the community in addressing gaps, developing goals, revitalization of the church, and sharing the gospel. The findings inform and provide a church an understanding of the community and the residents and define four items for a ministry/church:

* gaps in ministry (services) that exist in a community

* the depth of the assets available within the community to address these gaps

*the “felt needs” (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual) of individuals living in

the community (definition of “felt need” in document)

*to identify individuals and networks through which the gospel can be shared
